Vilsack Goes Before U.S. Senate Ag Committee

On Thursday, May 26th, the U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry held a hearing that featured Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack. The hearing covered a wide range of issues impacting agriculture, including items related to the farm bill and EPA. Senator Boozman (R-AR), vice chairman of the committee, spent considerable time focusing on inflationary pressures facing farmers and consumers, and he encouraged the Secretary to consider additional aid to the rice industry, which is impacted more adversely than other commodities in the current inflationary environment. He also encouraged EPA to suspend any new restrictions on crop protection tools to help alleviate inflation pressures and provide greater market certainty to farmers.
