USDA Issues Correction Notice on Payment Eligibility Rule

The USDA announced that it would correct a recently announced final rule issued by the Farm Service Agency (FSA) that would require all commodity program recipients to meet certain eligibility requirements for being "actively engaged" in farming. The retraction was made as USDA stated that they did not intend for the rule to be fully applicable to family farming operations. The reversal by USDA was criticized by Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) who has long sought to limit farm program payments to farmers, especially those who have larger operations.
