University of Arkansas Plan to Sell Section of Pine Tree Station Under Scrutiny

A plan by the University of Arkansas System's Division of Agriculture to sell a non-agricultural research section of land at its Pine Tree Research Station near Colt, Arkansas, is under scrutiny by a state lawmaker and facing opposition from area hunters and some public land advocates. According to the University, the land deal, which has been approved by the University Board of Trustees, would raise a significant amount of funds that would all be directed towards other public agricultural research priorities of the University including $5 million for the new Northeast Rice Research and Extension Center near Jonesboro. However, in order to sell the property, it must receive Congressional approval due to the manner in which the University took possession of the property.
