Supreme Court Limits EPA on Regulating Greenhouse Gas Emissions

On Thursday, June 30th, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the EPA exceeded its authority when it established the Clean Power Plan, which sought to limit emissions of greenhouse gases by utility providers. The court in a 6-3 ruling determined that Congress had not granted the EPA powers to establish such regulations under the Clean Air Act. The ruling is expected to create additional challenges for the EPA in seeking regulations under various statutes.
