Republican Study Committee Takes Aim at Farm Bill

A conservative group of republican lawmakers in the U.S. House of Representatives recently released an alternative budget plan that proposes to dramatically reduce support for American farmers. The Republican Study Committee (RSC) budget proposal calls for the elimination of the Price Loss Coverage (PLC) and Agricultural Risk Coverage (ARC) programs under the commodity title, significant reductions to premium subsidies for crop insurance, a discontinuance of conservation programs, and deep cuts to nutrition programs. It also calls for the splitting of the Nutrition title from the overall farm bill. Despite these proposals, the RSC claims their budget proposal is pro-farmer through its tax policy proposals and de-regulation proposals.

According to the RSC website, the organization lists Second District Congressman French Hill and Fourth District Congressman Bruce Westerman as members.
