Post from ACPA Newsletter (by Otis Howe):

I have been asked by the Arkansas Crop Protection Association (ACPA) Board of Directors to take over from Don Johnson next year as the Executive Director. Don has done a fantastic job for this organization, but he has decided to retire.

My wife Dawn and I have two married children and five grand children. Dawn is Executive Director of the Southwest Soybean Association and Christian Education Support Lead at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral. I teach 3-6 year old Sunday School at Trinity and serve as acolyte coordinator. Our daughter Jessica is an archaeologist with the Arkansas Department of Heritage in Little Rock and our son Peter is a Research Scientist with Corteva in Johnston, IA.

I received a B.S. in Agronomy and an M.S. in Agronomy (Weed Science) from the University of Arkansas. I worked for DuPont/Pioneer (Corteva) for 37 years, the first half of my career as a sales rep for DuPont Crop Protection and second half of my career as an agronomist for Pioneer. Cliff Coker and I started C H Crop Consulting 3 years ago after both of us retired from Pioneer.

I attended my first ACPA meeting (then it was the Arkansas Agricul- tural Chemical Association) as a graduate student in Weed Science in 1978 and have been a member since that time. I served on the ACPA board as an industry representative; and l served for 24 years as ACPA’s nominee to the Arkansas State Plant Board. Agriculture is our state’s largest industry, and I hope to help keep ACPA active in supporting agriculture. I believe our role in supporting our members and industry through activities like continuing education opportunities, field day support, graduate student contests, and scholarships are important for agriculture in Arkansas.

I know I have big shoes to fill replacing Don, but I look forward to the challenge. I look forward to working with our members in the future. My email is otis.howe3@gmail.com and my cell phone is 501-690-4297.
