Ocean Shipping Reform Act Offers Hope for Improving Log Jams

On Thursday, March 31, the U.S. Senate approved its version of the Ocean Shipping Reform Act, which is aimed at relieving congestion at U.S. ports and improving efficiencies in trade related to ocean shipping. The House has previously approved a similar version of legislation as a separate stand alone bill and as part of two other larger bills. The measures must be reconciled between the House and Senate before becoming law. The House and Senate versions are broadly supported by the agriculture industry as it offers potential improvements in logistics and infrastructure for shipping exports.
