On Friday, May 14, the US Coast Guard gave clearance for barge traffic to resume passage under the I-40 bridge at Memphis. The bridge was closed Tuesday after a routine inspection of the bridge by the Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) found a significant fracture in the bridge structure on one of the two main lateral beams. The bridge remains closed for vehicle passage until repairs can be made, which is expected to take a significant amount of time.
