Biden Submits Discretionary Budget Proposal to Congress

On Friday, April 9th, President Joe Biden submitted his first budget request to Congress in the form of a discretionary spending request. The request was made to aid Congress as it begins its budgeting and appropriations processes for fiscal year 2022, which begins October 1. President Biden is not expected to provide a comprehensive request for at least a period of months. The discretionary budget proposal called for a 16 percent spending increase for domestic programs with a 1.7 percent increase for military spending. Proposed increases in agricultural spending are focused on rural broadband, food and agriculture research, water infrastructure, racial equity initiatives, and nutrition programs.
