Ag Council Board Meeting Held August 21 in Stuttgart

The Ag Council of Arkansas board of directors held a meeting in Stuttgart August 21. The meeting consisted of two roundtable panel discussions featuring special guests.

The first panel considered federal issues facing the agriculture industry of Arkansas. Special guests included Arkansas First District Congressman Rick Crawford and Senate Agriculture Committee economist Dr. John Newton of the Minority Committee Staff under Senator John Boozman. The discussion included a wide range of topics including farm bill, appropriations, tax policy, trade policy, labor policy, and energy and environmental policy.

The second panel considered state issues facing the agriculture industry of Arkansas. Special guests included State Representative Jeremiah Moore (District 61 - Clarendon) and State Senators Blake Johnson (District 21 - Corning) and David Wallace (District 19 - Leachville). Also participating in the discussion was Ag Secretary Wes Ward. The state issues discussion covered tax policy, labor issues, infrastructure, ag research, energy and environmental issues, and other activities of the Department of Agriculture, including its boards and commissions.

Both panel discussions, which were led by Ag Council President Nathan Reed of Marianna, provided fruitful and productive conversation. Board members present were able to join in the conversation and ask questions related to various issues. We appreciate the participation of our guests, and we look forward to continuing to work with our guests and others to advance the row crop industry of Arkansas.
