Winrock Receives $1.25 Million Grant to Help Organic Farmers

Winrock International announced that it is the recipient of a $1.25 million grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) to address barriers experienced by farmers in the mid-South when considering organic crop production. The primary efforts of the five year program will be aimed at conducting farm scale experimental field trials of various organic cropping systems to determine greatest challenges and opportunities in organic crop production while also providing training and education services for farmers looking to incorporate organic production or new and beginning farmers looking to enter into organic farming.

Partnering with Winrock International in this three state project, is the USDA Dale Bumpers Small Farms Research Center in Booneville, the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture, the University of Missouri Southwest Research Center, the Natural Soybean and Grain Alliance in Fayetteville, and Agricenter International in Memphis.
