Winrock Receives $1 Million USDA Grant to Study Worker Health in Delta Region

Winrock International announced on January 31st that it was awarded a $1 million grant by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to pursue policies to improve health and wellness of rural workers in certain Delta communities that currently experience high rates of chronic disease, health risk factors and other health disparities. The funding is provided under a USDA program known as Supporting Health Advances for Rural Employees (SHARE). Winrock will partner with the New York Institute of Technology’s College of Osteopathic Medicine at Arkansas State University, the Arkansas Community Health Worker Association, and Community Health Centers of Arkansas. They intend to conducting worksite assessments and providing health curricula development training, wellness screenings, and training to some of the region’s largest employers in selected counties (Mississippi, St. Francis, Phillips, and Chicot) in the Delta.
