Walton Family Gifts $194.7 Million to UofA for Research

On July 14th, the University of Arkansas announced that it will receive a $194.7 million grant from the Walton Family Charitable Support Foundation to support and strengthen the research capabilities of the University of Arkansas. The five-year grant will support the construction of a new research facility, called the University of Arkansas Institute for Integrative and Innovative Research (I3R), that will provide an interdisciplinary and wholly integrative research institute. The research is expected to impact agriculture through its research and product development in data science, food and technology, and materials science and engineering. According to the University, the donation is one of the most significant single private gifts ever given to a university for advancing research and economic development. It also counts toward the $1.25 billion fundraising goal set for Campaign Arkansas, the university’s soon-to-close capital campaign.
