USDA Releases Crop Production Report

On Tuesday, November 10, USDA National Agriculture Statistics Service (NASS) released an updated Crop Production Report for the U.S. and Arkansas. For the U.S., corn and soybean production estimates were reduced slightly from October estimates while cotton production estimates increased slightly from October estimates. In Arkansas, USDA predicts the following:

Corn for grain production is forecast at 110 million bushels, down 1 percent from the October 1 forecast and down 15 percent from 2019. Based on conditions as of November 1, yield is expected to average 181 bushels per acre, down 2 bushels from last month but up 6 bushels from last year. Producers expect to harvest 605,000 acres of corn for grain, down 130,000 acres from 2019.

Upland cotton production is forecast at 1.30 million bales, unchanged from the October 1 forecast but 206,000 bales below last year. Based on conditions as of November 1, yield is expected to average 1,200 pounds per harvested acre, unchanged from last month but up 15 pounds from 2019. Harvested acreage is estimated at 520,000 acres, down 90,000 acres from 2019.

Peanut production in 2020 is forecast at 191 million pounds, unchanged from the October 1 forecast but up 11 percent from last year. Based on conditions as of November 1, yield is expected to average 4,900 pounds per acre, unchanged from last month but down 300 pounds from last year. Area for harvest, at 39,000 acres, is up 6,000 acres from 2019.

All rice production for the state is forecast at 108 million hundredweight, unchanged from the October 1 forecast but up 28 percent from last year's production of 84.3 million hundredweight. Based on conditions as of November 1, the all rice yield for 2020 is forecast at 7,500 pounds per acre, unchanged from last month but up 20 pounds from last year. Producers expect to harvest 1.44 million acres of rice, up 315,000 acres from 2019.

Soybean production in 2020 is forecast at 139 million bushels, up 2 percent from the October 1 forecast and up 9 percent from last year. Based on conditions as of November 1, yield is expected to average 50 bushels per acre, up 1 bushel from last month and up 1 bushel from last year. Area for harvest, at 2.78 million acres, is up 170,000 acres from 2019.
