U.S. Steel announced on Tuesday, January 11th, that it has selected Mississippi County for a new $3 billion steelmaking facility. The new facility located in Osceola near the Mississippi River will compliment the company's existing production at the former Big River Steel production facility. The company stated that the future facility would be the most advanced steelmaking facility in North America with state of the art machinery and equipment operating in the most sustainable way. The company complimented the State of Arkansas and other local partners who coordinated a package of incentives and services that attracted the investment. The investment, which is the largest capital investment project in Arkansas history is expected to create 900 jobs with an average pay over $100,000 annually.
