U.S. Pressures China on Import Quota Program

On July 16, the U.S. government officially notified the World Trade Organization (WTO) that China was not complying with commitments made regarding transparency, predictability, and fairness of their tariff rate quota (TRQ) administration for rice, wheat, and corn as previously instructed by the WTO's Dispute Settlement Body (DSB) in 2019. As part of the notification filed with the WTO, the U.S. requested permission to retaliate against China for not implementing the DSB recommendations by the established deadline of June 26 this year.

The WTO’s DSB will meet next week on July 26 to review this matter.
