U.S. House Agriculture Committee Appears Closer to Establishing Top Posts

Leadership in the U.S. House Committee on Agriculture leadership for the top posts on the committee in the upcoming 117th Congress are nearly fully settled with the expectation of David Scott (D-GA) chairing the committee and Glenn Thompson (R-PA) serving as Ranking Member. The seats were both vacated with the defeat of former Chairman Collin Peterson (D-MN) and the retirement of Mike Conaway (R-TX). Scott will be the first African American chairman of the committee. Scott, who grew up on a family farm has served on the committee since first elected in 2002. Thompson, who grew up on a dairy farm, has served on the committee for 11 years. Arkansas First District Congressman Rick Crawford, who was also in the mix for the top Republican spot on the committee, is expected to continue serving on the committee in the 117th Congress.
