Sultana Museum Receives $1 Million Federal Grant

The City of Marion, Arkansas, will receive an additional $1 million in federal grant funds for the development of the new museum that will commemorate the sinking of the Sultana, a Civil War steamboat that sank near the town in the Mississippi River on April 27, 1865. The vessel was estimated to have on board 1,200 passengers at the time it exploded and sank. It's considered to be the worst maritime disaster in U.S. history.
