Senate Confirms Vilsack to Ag Secretary

On Tuesday, February 23rd, Tom Vilsack was confirmed by the U.S. Senate to serve as Secretary of Agriculture under President Biden. He was confirmed with a vote of 92-7 and was sworn into office on Wednesday, February 24th. He is expected to be very busy as he starts his work, including managing COVID-19 aid programs and proposals, reviewing pending rules and regulations, and establishing policy priorities for the new administration.

Vilsack will return to USDA where he previously served as Secretary during the full term of the Obama administration. He is a native Iowan who also served as Governor of the State of Iowa. His most recent employment was for the U.S. Dairy Export Council.
