Members of House and Senate Call on USTR to Remove Rice from GSP Program

A recent letter sent by several members of the U.S. House and Senate to United States Trade Representative (USTR) Robert Lighthizer offered support for USA Rice's petition to the Agency requesting that rice be removed from the list of duty-free commodities under the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) Program. Currently six rice related tariff lines are eligible for duty-free access to the U.S. for certain GSP eligible countries including Argentina, Brazil, Cambodia, Myanmar, Pakistan, Paraguay and Thailand. The USA Rice petition was filed in March of this year, and remains under consideration with a final decision expected in the coming weeks prior to 2021.
