Since the first Arkansas marijuana dispensary opened in May of 2019, more than 40,000 pounds of medical marijuana have been sold in the state according to the Arkansas Medical Marijuana Commission (AMMC). The value of the quantity sold is estimated by the Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration to be valued at roughly $285 million. The state taxes collected on the sales over the last two years are estimated to be roughly $30 million, with the vast majority of those funds going to the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) for its National Cancer Designation Trust Fund.
Arkansas voters in 2016 approved a constitutional amendment legalizing medical marijuana.
