House & Senate Bills Aim to Make Paycheck Protection Program More Suitable to Farmers

Legislation recently introduced in the U.S. House and Senate known as the Paycheck Protection for Producers Act (H.R. 7175, S. 3918) is designed to help more farmers and ranchers participate in the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP). The PPP, which was established under the CARES Act, is administered by the Small Business Administration (SBA). The program was designed to help small businesses and farms during the ongoing economic challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. While the program has worked well for many farm operations, there are many that have struggled to meet eligibility, and this legislation is intended to make more operations eligible for the program.
