House Approves HEROES Act to Provide More Pandemic Aid

On Friday, May 15th, the U.S. House of Representatives passed another pandemic aid package, known as the HEROES Act. The measure, which provides roughly $3 trillion in additional aid to help cope with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on the economy, did not receive a warm welcome from the White House or Senate. It also received only one republican vote in the House. The White House and Senate appear to be more patient in providing additional aid by taking a "wait and see" approach after already approving massive aid packages. The House bill did provide roughly $16.5 in additional direct payment aid to farmers, but many believe that figure is insufficient to address the damage done to date and potential damage to come.
