House Advancing 2021 Fiscal Year Spending Bills

The U.S. House of Representatives is making quick work of fiscal year 2021 spending bills in an attempt to keep the appropriations process on schedule to meet the start of the new fiscal year October 1. The Senate will return later in July to do its part in advancing its own appropriations bills that will have to be negotiated with the House before October 1. With the uncertainty of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the impending 2020 presidential election, the outcome of the congressional spending effort is far from certain at this point, but a shutdown is unlikely at this point.
