On Friday, April 16th, the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture announced that it would be ther recipient of a $2 million gift from Greenway Equipment to aid in the development of the new Northeast Rice Research and Extension Center in Poinsett County. The funding is to be divided between gifts of equipment for the Center and the building of the exhibition hall at the Center. The new Center is aimed at supporting rice production in Arkansas, especially in the Northern half of the state, which has expanded production in recent decades. The facility at the Center will house research offices and provide community space as well for meetings and cooking and food making experiences. The Center was sparked by funds provided from collections under rice Tariff-rate Quotas (TRQs) in partnership with the Arkansas Rice Research and Promotion Board.
