Governor Holds Cabinet Meeting

On Thursday, October 8th, Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson held a meeting with his cabinet secretaries. A significant part of the discussion centered around the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the state's efforts to battle the virus while keeping the economy active. The Governor announced that Thursday marked the state's biggest one-day increase since it previously reported 1,180 new probably and confirmed cases on September 11. The total number was 1,265 for a total of 90,145 positive cases in Arkansas. He also reported that the numebr of people hospitalized due to COVID-19 also rose to a new record high of 547 with 243 in intensive care units (ICU). The total fatalities related to COVID-19 infections stood at 1,503.

The Governor used the opportunity to remind his cabinet and all Arkansans of the importance of taking part in activities to reduce the spread of the virus, including avoiding large gatherings, social distancing, use of masks, and frequent hand washing.
