The 93rd General Assembly began work on its legislative session on January 11th. The first week was largely ceremonial with the formalization of leadership roles and committee assignments along with a state of the state address by Governor Hutchinson. Beginning next week, committees in the House and Senate will begin work on considering bills introduced to date.
While over 350 bills have been introduced to date, we are only monitoring a few so far. Of primary interest is a bill (SB80) filed by Senator David Wallace. It was referred to the Senate Agriculture Committee for consideration. It proposes to amend the State Plant Board statutes (2-16-206) to change the appointment process for 9 of the 16 voting members of the Plant Board in a manner that would eliminate certain industry organizations and associations' stated role in serving on the Plant Board and would grant the Governor full authority to fill these posts from within the industry practice currently listed for these seats.
We will continue to provide legislative updates throughout the session. Resources for the 93rd General Assembly are available below.
