Federal Judge Overturns North Carolina Law to Protect Farm Privacy

A U.S. District Court Judge recently ruled in favor of environmental and animal activist groups and against farm groups on a North Carolina state law intented to protect the privacy of farms and other small businesses from certain acts of trespass. A similar Arkansas law, which was supported by the Ag Council of Arkansas, is also being challenged by similar groups. The challenge to the Arkansas law is under appeal in federal court at the 8th Circuit of Appeals after initially being dismissed by a U.S. District Court Judge. In both the North Carolina and Arkansas cases, plaintiffs against the law were joined by various media groups.
