Delta Heritage Trail Awarded $20 Million U.S. DOT Grant

On November 17th, Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson and members of the Arkansas Congressional delegation announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded $20,482,208 to the Arkansas Department of Parks, Heritage and Tourism to construct the final 13.4-mile section of the southeast Arkansas trail (known as the Delta Heritage Trail) through the DOT's Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) Discretionary Grant Program. The Delta Heritage Trail is a multi-use recreation trail spanning 87 miles from Lexa to Arkansas City with much of the system built on old railroad corridors as part of the Rails to Trails program. The system, which previously recieved a matching $20 million grant from the Walton Family Foundation aims to improve health and quality of life for area residents and bolster outdoor recreation travel and tourism throughout the Delta.
