Deere Worker Strike Continues as Labor Narrowly Declines Company Offer

A substantial workforce strike at John Deere is expected to continue after members of the International Union, United Automobile, Aerospace and Agricultural Implement Workers of America (UAW) representing roughly 10,000 employees working for Deere at multiple plants voted down a second offer from John Deere by a vote of 55% - 45%. The most recent offering from the company reportedly would have provided an immediate 10% wage increase; 30% wage increases over the term of contract; health care with $0 premiums, $0 deductibles, $0 coinsurance; new paid parental leave, autism care, and other benefits; groundbreaking retirement benefits; and a ratification bonus of $8,500.

Deere executives stated that they were not in a position to expand the offer any further while noted that they would do their best to work around the ongoing strike with employees who are not on strike. The strike is expected to lead to greater supply chain related challenges for John Deere as they look to meet the current demand of farmers.
