Corn Belt Hammered by Derecho

A major weather system that moved across much of the Midwest wreaked havoc on farmers throughout the corn belt by flattening corn fields and knocking out grain bins. The full effect is yet to be determined, but straight line winds ripped across the landscape covering much of Iowa all the way through Illinois and Indiana. The weather event, classified as a derecho system, carried winds in excess of 100 mph for much of its path.
