Congress Taking Aim at Continuing Resolution for Fiscal Year 2022 Spending

With the 2021 fiscal year coming to a close at the end of September, Congress is looking to quickly take up and vote on a continuing resolution to avoid a government shutdown. The appropriations committees are drafting a continuing resolution that would fund the government into December. Congress must also find a way to consider and approve an increase to the debt ceiling. It's possible that it could be included as part of the continuing resolution, but both the continuing resolution and debt ceiling are expected to lead to partisan divisions making the task of avoiding a shutdown difficult.
