China Denies U.S. Claims on China's Rice and Wheat Subsidies

On Wednesday, China officially rejected the claims of the United States that China has failed to comply with a 2019 World Trade Organization (WTO) ruling on China’s price supports for its wheat and rice farmers. The U.S. has requested that the WTO allow the United States to take “countermeasures” against China to the tune of $1.3 billion. The U.S. complaint stems from previous suits brought against China in 2016. It is not yet clear how the WTO will handle the latest spat.
