Board of Apportionment Finalizes Legislative District Maps

On Monday, November 29th, the Arkansas Board of Apportionment, consisting of the Governor, Secretary of State, and Attorney General, finalized legislative maps for the Arkansas General Assembly. The Board of Apportionment was created in 1936 by Amendment 23 to the Arkansas Constitution with the responsibility of redrawing district boundaries for the Arkansas House of Representatives and Senate. It meets every ten years, immediately following each Federal census and files its report with the Secretary of State. Over the last few months, the Board redrew 100 House & 35 Senate Districts so that each district met various legal criteria, including each district being about the same size in population.
