On April 12, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released a new comprehensive workplan aimed at providing more thorough and complete consideration of endangered species when registering products for use under the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA). The stated goal of the plan was to ensure greater compliance with the Endangered Species Act (ESA) and FIFRA when considering registrations and reviews of various products. In addition, EPA stated goals to avoid future litigation challenging such adherence.
It's expected that this new process is likely to lead to slower registration timelines and more restrictive product use labels for products that are ultimately registered by EPA.
