Arkansas Board of Apportionment Reveals Legislative Maps

The Arkansas Board of Apportionment met on October 29th to reveal their initial proposed maps for new boundaries for state legislative seats. Updating these maps is a requirement each decade based on population changes revealed in the latest Census report. The Board of Apportionment is comprised of Republicans Gov. Asa Hutchinson, Attorney General Leslie Rutledge and Secretary of State John Thurston. The proposed maps will proceed to receiving additional 30 day public comment period and additional consideration by the Board of Apportionment.

With regard to rural counties, Senate and House districts grew in size as population declined in these areas. Urban and suburban areas saw additional concentration of representatives due to population increases. Once maps are made official later this year, all Senate and House seats will be in cycle for election.
