Ag Input Costs are a Top Concern for Upcoming Crop Year

Crop input inflation is here, and it does not appear to be subsiding in the near future. The higher costs of nearly every crop input will present a challenge to many growers in the upcoming crop year, and it will most certainly impact planting decisions across the United States. Fertilizer costs have seen the most substantial increase among inputs, and those costs will carry the most weight in planting decisions. Potential shortages of crop protection products are also of significant concern. Machinery and equipment costs are also on the rise, and shortages of supplies and supply chain disruptions will present additional challenges. While higher commodity prices are expected to provide a buffer for these cost concerns, farmers were hoping to use the higher prices as an opportunity to strengthen balance sheets following several consecutive challenging years.
