On Tuesday, May 21, the Ag Council of Arkansas submitted letters to House Agriculture Committee Chairman Glenn "GT" Thompson and the members of the House Agriculture Committee expressing support for the Chairman's draft farm bill. The letters were issued in advance of the scheduled May 23rd markup of the Chairman's draft bill. The letters, which were signed by Ag Council president Nathan Reed of Marianna, Arkansas, discussed the importance of the Chairman's efforts to strengthen conservation programs and enhance safety-net provisions in the commodity and crop insurance titles. In addition to calling for support and passage of the Chairman's draft bill, the letters also called for near term relief for farmers facing persistently high input costs and declining crop prices.
