Senate Committee Approves Highway Funding Bill
The Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee on Wednesday, July 31st, unanimously approved a $287-billion highway bill (S. 2302). The measure will still need to be considered and approved by the full Senate and the House. The measure directs more than 90 percent of its funding towards current formula funds at levels that represent a 27% increase from the previous highway funding bill past, which makes this measure the most significant investment in highway funding in history.
Included in the bill were amendments by Senator John Boozman and Senator James Inhofe to 1) provide authority for some of the discretionary grant funds to be utilized for the McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System; and 2) to allow any state to use their federal freight formula funding on waterway projects if needed or desired.
