Marion Plans Museum for Sultana

The community of Marion, Arkansas, is planning to develop a new museum dedicated to memorializing one of the most under-reported tragedies in America’s history. The museum planned would be dedicated to the explosion of the steamboat Sultana, which led to the death of at least 1,200 passengers aboard the ship carrying Union soldiers returning North following the end of the Civil War. The incident is considered the worst maritime disaster in U.S. history.
