Senate Planning to Move Farm Bill Soon After House

Senate Agriculture Committee Chairman Pat Roberts (R-KS) made it known this week that he intended to begin work on a farm bill in his committee in the coming weeks. The Senate action would follow the U.S. House of Representatives, which has already moved a farm bill through the Agriculture Committee and is considering the measure this week before the full House. One primary point of concern in the Senate is a controversial bill proposed by Senator John Thune (R-SD) and Sherrod Brown (D-OH) that would make enhancements to the Agricultural Risk Coverage (ARC) for corn and soybeans while also weaken the Price Loss Coverage (PLC) program for cotton, rice, peanuts and other commodities.
