Congressional Leaders Look to Short-Term Spending Bill

Congressional leaders are planning to address an impending deadline for government spending with a short-term bill continuing government spending until at least December 22nd.  They have until Friday to approve such legislation. It appears they will defer longer term spending options for the 2018 fiscal year for a little while longer at least. One key provision for row crop agriculture under consideration for the fiscal year 2018 spending bill is a proposal by the National Cotton Council (NCC) being led by Senate Appropriations Committee Chairman Thad Cochran to make cotton an eligible commodity for provide price loss coverage (PLC). It is only expected to become law in an omnibus appropriations bill for the entire fiscal year and not a short term continuing resolution.
