Conservation Leader Gene Sullivan Passes On
On September 4th, Albert Eugene “Gene” Sullivan, former Arkansas State Conservationist and leader of the Bayou Meto Irrigation District passed away following a bout with cancer. Services were held Friday, September 8th, in North Little Rock. Gene was a man of many accomplishments and credentials. He was a leader in the field of conservation, particularly as it related to water conservation. He worked for many years at the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) for the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) including stints as Deputy State Conservationist in California and State Conservationist in Nebraska, Mississippi, and Arkansas, where his son, Michael Sullivan, currently serves as State Conservationist.
