House Appropriations Committee Advances Agriculture/Energy & Water Bill

On July 12, the House Appropriations Committee  approved the fiscal year 2018 Agriculture Appropriations bill as well as the 2018 Energy and Water Appropriations bill. The bills are both of critical interest and importance to agriculture. The Agricultural bill totals $20 billion in discretionary funding, which is $876 million lower than the fiscal year 2017 enacted level and $4.64 billion above the President’s budget request. The Energy and Water Appropriations bill totals $37.56 billion – $209 million below the fiscal year 2017 enacted level and $3.65 billion above the President’s budget request. Funding is targeted toward national security efforts – including nuclear weapons activities – and energy and water infrastructure investments. Both bills were approved by voice vote.
