May 15th Crop Progress and Condition Report

On May 15th, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) National Agricultural Statistical Service (NASS) released a new Crop Progress and Condition Report for Arkansas. The report shows that 100 percent of the 2017 corn crop is planted, 95 percent of the rice crop is planted, 62 percent of soybeans are planted, 82 percent of sorghum is planted, 58 percent of peanuts are planted and 51 percent of cotton is planted.  They also report that 82 percent of the winter wheat crop is coloring. Significant rainfalls in recent weeks have slowed planting progress, and crop damage has been significant in areas due to flash flooding, bottomland flooding, and hail and wind damage. Farmers in these areas are attempting to get back into fields as water recedes.
