Governor and Congressional Delegation Ask USDA for Help on Insurance Regulations

Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson and the Arkansas Congressional Delegation both sent letters to U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Secretary Sonny Perdue making a request for a secretarial waiver to a new USDA Risk Management Agency (RMA) rule related to “practical to replant” requirements. The current rule is likely to cause additional economic harm to producers as it would require farmers to replant rice all the way up to June 10th despite it being common knowledge that planting this late typically causes significant reductions in yield losses. Much of the area impacted by the 2017 floods included acres planted to rice. The request comes on the heels of a recent visit by Secretary Perdue in which he toured the flood damaged areas with the Governor and the congressional delegation.
