Ag Groups Urge Congress to Preserve Farm Bill
Roughly 400 farm groups across the country have expressed strong opposition to Congress regarding the idea of reopening the 2014 farm bill and making further cuts to agricultural programs and other farm bill programs. The 2014 farm bill was approved in February 2014, and farmers are now beginning to participate in the safety net programs. Just barely a year into the new law, some members of the Congress who are not much interested in agriculture or farm programs have already made it known that they will seek cuts to farm programs. The 2014 farm bill contributed over $23 billion in budget savings and included many significant reforms, and farm groups are strongly opposed to reopening the measure to make further cuts. The measures to open and amend the farm bill law will likely come during the budget resolution or appropriations process.
